One major obstacle to volunteerism is lack of time. And no matter how busy people's work schedules are, most people have down time or quiet periods at some point. So it's logical to encourage your company to allow a small amount of time off work (ideally paid) so that employees can partake in community service. This is useful on multiple grounds: workforce morale is boosted, the local community is benefited, and the company's social responsibility credentials are bolstered. And none of this takes any extra money. Bitchin'.
Effort involved: interesting effort, since this will be time away from your normal routine.
